The Relationship Between an Artist and Manager

For this blog, I want to discuss the relationship between an artist and manager. The relationship between an artist and their manager should be a good one. It is important for the artist and manager to have a strong relationship. It is important because the manager is going to be in charge for making the artist career a successful one. The manager should be considered, the artist best friend. When first building a relationship between the artist and manager, it is important for the artist to get to know the manager’s background. The artist is always going to want someone who is going to have his or her best interests. An artist can easily replace a manager when they feel that their manager is not doing their job.

Once the artist has picked a manager, it is important for the two to establish a relationship and set expectations between the two. It will take time for the relationship to build. Do not expect to become best friends overnight. It is important for the manager, to understand what the artist expectations are. The artist wants to know what can you add to his/her career. Once the artist and manager have set expectations, then the relationship can start. Once that relationship is established between the two, you want to make sure that it will stay that way. It is important for a manager not to get to comfortable and start to slack on his/her job. An artist can always go out and find a new manager if that person is not doing his/her job.

In conclusion, it is very important for the artist and the manager to have a good relationship with each other. When that relationship is made it is important for the manager to not forget why he/she was hired in the first place.http://resilienceartistmanagement.com/the-relationship-between-artist-and-manager-what-you-should-know/

The Role of an Artist Manager

For this blog post, I chose to write about is the role of an artist manager.  A manager’s job is to make sure the artist have a successful music career. A manager should be an artist’s best friend. A manager should plan the artist’s schedules and represent the artist when it comes to contracts, negotiations, and anything else that is going to determine the artist career. A manager should always attend professional events as well, to make sure that everything is going as planned for the artist. The managers will be the go to guy/girl for anything that is dealing with the artist. You are not going to get to the artist without going through the manager first.

A manager should always be available to the artist whenever he/she is needed. If your not available for your artist, then you are not doing your job. Artists should be able to call on you for anything at anytime. A manager is responsible for molding the artist’s career. When managing an artist, that artist should not have to worry about a thing. It is important to always make the best decision for the artist, when it comes to negotiation and contracts. A manager is responsible, for making sure that the artist has a successful career in every way. It is important that the manager constantly looks for business opportunities for the artist. The manager is responsible for leading the artist down the right path.

In conclusion, the manager plays an important role in the artist’s life. Being a manager is a big role to play. Anyone can be a manager, but it takes the right person to make the artist’s career a successful one. As I stated before, it is important to make sure that every decision is made in the best interest of the artist.http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2011/10/the-changing-role-of-artist-management-after-the-death-of-the-record-business.html http://blog.tunecore.com/2011/02/artist-managers-must-understand-their-role-is-now-business-development.html

For my blog post I will be discussing the importance of networking. Networking is very important, especially when you are trying to be successful in the entertainment industry. There are networking events everyday that people can attend. Everywhere you go there is networking possibilities. It is important to be prepared, because you never know whom you are going to meet. When networking, always make sure you have a business card on you as well as samples of your work. When it comes to showing samples of your work, you can give them the link to your website, or you can have a pdf copy on your phone to show. It is important to always look and act your best when it comes to working. Whether it is a company or an artist, they are always looking someone who is going to represent them the best.

It is important to have social networks as well. Social networks are one of the biggest way to network now and days. Make sure put the link to your work on social networks, so people can have a way to check your work out. Another way to network is going to different events. When people see you come to their event, then they will remember that and want to do business with you. It is important to network because it shows people how serious you really are and will want to work with you. Networking can open a lot of doors for you.

In conclusion, it is very important to network. There are many ways that you can network and get your name out there. Always remember that you can network wherever you go. Always make sure that you have business cards on you to hand out so people can get in contact with you and know how to look at your work.

Reviews on Artist Management Websites

For this blog post I will write a review on different artist management websites. I chose this topic because having a good website is important when you are trying to gain new clients. The first website I reviewed was Impact Artist Management website. As soon as I clicked on the website I was impressed. The website is simple and easy to navigate through. The website grabbed my attention immediately as soon as I entered the website. The website has a great color scheme that stands out and goes with the font very well. The picture content on the website matches the color scheme as well. I like how every thing is neat and below on the home page, you can check out news about their company. On the artist page, you can check out the different artists that they manage as well as click on their picture. Once you click on their picture it will take you to another link that tells you about the artist. http://www.impactartist.com/home

The second website that I will discuss is Management artists. Management artists are a group of managers who manage photography. I would consider their website good, but not the best. There is definitely work that can be done on the website. The website is simple but it is plain on some links. The images are outstanding. You can navigate through the website without any problems. The color scheme is simple and goes well with the images that are displayed on the website. The only complaint that I have on the home page is how big the letters are on the page. They should switch the design up on the website to make it pop more. http://www.managementartists.com/

The third and final website that I reviewed is the Gail Boyd website. The type of artists that is managed through Gail Boyd is jazz. I am impressed with the website all around. The website is neat and easy to navigate. As soon as I clicked on the website, my attention was grabbed. The website is not to cluttered at all. The only complaint that I have is some of the tabs do not have content or display little content to them. The color scheme was good; it was not bright at all. http://www.gailboyd.com/

In conclusion, it is important to have websites that make people want to stay and find out what the website is about. When gaining new clients, a neat and easy to navigate website can help.

Interview Blog

The person I chose to interview was DJ Ray G. Ray G is a well known DJ based out of Atlanta, GA. Ray G DJ’s at some of Atlanta’s hot night clubs throughout the week and the weekend. Ray G started DJing at a very young age and decided to make a career out of it. The type of deals that Ray G negotiates is how much he is going to get paid for producing mix tapes and for when he DJ’s at the club. Ray G has produced some of the hottest mix tapes in Atlanta. When it comes to Ray G negotiating his he thinks about the experience that he has and how much he is worth. He also thinks about how much time he will be putting in whatever it is that he is going to be doing.

One of the things Ray G and me discussed is how he overcomes positional bargaining. He responded by saying that he does not like focusing on positions he likes focusing on what he wants out of the deal. He also focuses on what is fair throughout the deal. He likes to know what he wants going into a deal before he negotiates. That is important because if you do not know what you want, then you may not get what you want at the end.

Another question I asked Ray G is how does he focus on the objective criteria. He responded that it was something he had to learn. He knew when it came to negotiation he had to meet his objective. If he did not meet his objective, then he felt like he did not when the negotiation. He mentioned that he focused on his objective criteria by knowing what he want to get out of the deal before he negotiates with the other party.
