The person I chose to interview was
DJ Ray G. Ray G is a well known DJ based out of Atlanta, GA. Ray G DJ’s at some
of Atlanta’s hot night clubs throughout the week and the weekend. Ray G started
DJing at a very young age and decided to make a career out of it. The type of
deals that Ray G negotiates is how much he is going to get paid for producing
mix tapes and for when he DJ’s at the club. Ray G has produced some of the
hottest mix tapes in Atlanta. When it comes to Ray G negotiating his he thinks
about the experience that he has and how much he is worth. He also thinks about
how much time he will be putting in whatever it is that he is going to be
doing.
One of the things Ray G and me
discussed is how he overcomes positional bargaining. He responded by saying
that he does not like focusing on positions he likes focusing on what he wants
out of the deal. He also focuses on what is fair throughout the deal. He likes
to know what he wants going into a deal before he negotiates. That is important
because if you do not know what you want, then you may not get what you want at
the end.
Another question I asked Ray G is
how does he focus on the objective criteria. He responded that it was something
he had to learn. He knew when it came to negotiation he had to meet his
objective. If he did not meet his objective, then he felt like he did not when
the negotiation. He mentioned that he focused on his objective criteria by
knowing what he want to get out of the deal before he negotiates with the other
party.
